Outdoor Learning
Our aim at the Acorn Centre is to provide children who have difficulty accessing mainstream educational settings with an alternative provision grounded in play and therapeutic activities. A typical Acorn session includes outdoor play and fresh air breaks as standard.
Every Friday, the Acorn team provide specific outdoor learning sessions for selected children and their parent/carers.
The centre is based on the Lincolnsfield Estate, Bushey. This is a woodland estate giving us access to acres of land suitable for outdoor learning activities. Some of our outdoor learning activities include:
- outdoor games
- building campfires and cooking
- Treasure hunts
- learning walks
- Rigging hammocks & building dens
- External day trips. Previous trips have included Wenzels bakery, Rock Up, Christmas Pantomime and Cinema.
Children may be invited to attend an outdoor learning session with their Parent/ Carer based on their Acorn journey. This a great opportunity for our Acorn team to get to know the children and their guardians, have fun outside and meet with other Acorn children.
