Aims and Objectives
The Acorn Centre is committed to delivering the following aims and objectives:
- To contribute to the delivery of two hours per week of high quality PE and Sport through curricular and non-curricular activities for all Acklam Grange pupils
- To contribute to the provision of affordable and accessible sporting opportunities for the whole communities of West Middlesbrough and the whole town, creating a mass participation culture and sense of local pride.
- To enable a step change to take place, embedding sport and physical activity within the lifestyles of local residents, thus contributing to improving local health inequalities, community crime, social inclusion and community regeneration.
- To develop the Acorn Centre and ancillary facilities as a ‘sporting hub’, creating pathways to excellence and allowing individuals the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
- To establish effective, sustainable relationships with key partners to ensure the sporting, and health needs of local communities are met.
- To ensure the Acorn Centre and ancillary facilities at Acklam Grange School continue to meet the changing customer expectations through ‘Best Value’ management practices.
- To identify the training needs of all staff, through the support and provision of training opportunities.
Outcomes
- Improved physical education and sport at Acklam Grange and other local schools
- Higher standards across the whole schools network through PE, sport and other forms of structured activity.
- To improve and enhance the whole school curriculum and school life generally.
- Better opportunities to increase the levels of physical activity among the school age population and, more generally, local communities.
- To contribute in the reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour locally.
- To contribute in the reduction of health inequalities locally.
- Improved collaboration, co-operation and partnership between schools, community agencies and their local communities.
- Promotion of social inclusion through access to, and use of, sports and outdoor adventure facilities by all group in society.
- Innovation and best practice in the design and management of the Acorn Centre and ancillary facilities.
